PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Have you ever taken a virtual tour of a house or a condo?  Have you ever bought, sold or received information on line?  If the answer is YES, you are one of the majority members of the Smith College Class of 1955.  We are one of the first Smith classes of "that generation" to take advantage of "high-tech know how".  More than three quarters of our class are on line and remember, it was in the 50's, ENIAK and similar monster computers  were THE examples of information technology.  I would dare say that you are head and shoulders above other women in your age group.

And now we look forward to celebrating our 55th reunion in less than 3 years.  You were, are and will always be remarkable women.

The year 2008 is the year for mini reunions.  You will be hearing much more about that from Diane Neal Emmons in the months to come.  Since many of you have been travelling, volunteering in new and exciting capacities, continuing to work, taken up new hobbies and, in general, enjoying living in the 21st century, we do want to hear from you.  We want to hear from ALL OF YOU -- not only your successes and your long line of progeny, but your hopes, your frustrations and/or your regrets.  Statistics have come out showing that 1 in 3 females alive today will live to be 100 years old.  And, in this age of pharmaceuticals, many of you will be healthy for years to come. Smith has had a part in nurturing and developing your intellectual skills so that you might keep up (albeit a little unsteadily sometimes) with this "new fangled" global technology and communication.  Incidentally, in Newsweek's College Guide, Smith was described as the "Hottest Womens' College" in the country. It is nice to know that your old alma mater is still a big winner.

Our web guru, Joan Butler Ford, (revjbf@cox.net) is waiting for your e-mails.  Send her pictures, articles --anything that is "fit to print" and then some.  We want this website to represent YOU.

In the meantime, I hope you are well and I look forward to seeing you in 2010 and, hopefully, before.

Patricia Rediker Goldstein, Class President
