55'S 55TH IS BRIGHT GREEN

Renewing friendships, regenerating class spirit, and recycling deep-rooted values

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnbM2zJ1vWk Come one, come all to 55's 55th reunion, May 20-23, 2010. A glorious celebration to look forward to was the unanimous verdict of your class officers who met in September at the Verona, NJ home of Adrian Austin Shelby.

The meeting was highlighted by a private tour of "Cezanne and American Modernism," given by the exhibit's chief curator at the Montclair Art
Museum-and another private-showing of the Graeme Hardie and Silas Mountsier Gardens in Nutley, New Jersey. Both of these excursions were open to all of the alumnae in the area and were extraordinary due to Adrian's tireless and imaginative planning. In addition, Adrian made arrangements for us to have dinners on Thursday night at the Montclair Golf Club and on Friday night at the beautiful home of Elaine Lieb Lazurus.

The meeting's agenda included fundraising reports, the treasury report, an informational discussion of Smith's generous planned giving program, and, above all, a planning directive for what will be 55's fabulous 55th reunion. And in the tradition of reunions past, the wheels are turning fast.

The reunion, May 20 to 23, 2010, will be kicked off - or rather, "pedaled off' - with a pre -reunion bike trip organized by cyclist Emily Benua Rutherford. Jill Ker Conway, internationally known author and former president of the college, will be the featured dinner speaker and just part of a weekend of festivities and fun during the three -day event. The weekend will be further advanced by an excellent program including noted alumnae Susan McWhinney Morse and Cynthia Harris.

Smith alumna share a bond that lasts a lifetime. That bond is strengthened as our involvement with the college grows. This year, in the fifth year of my presidency of your class, I am inspired by the extraordinary women who work with me as class officers. Their energy, their generosity, their commitment, and their creativity never cease to amaze me.
- Pat Rediker Goldstein
